Spiced with cinnamon, star anise, cloves, this mulled wine will make you warm, tingly, and be sure to get you in the holiday mood.
bottle of red wine like Merlot, Cabernet, Syrah, Zinfandel
2 cups apple cider
2 Oranges (orange peels, white pith removed & juice both oranges)
2 cinnamon sticks
3 Star anise
2-4 tablespoons of brown sugar or maple syrup (add more if you want it sweeter)
¼ cup Grand Marnier (optional)
Place all ingredients, except Grand Marnier, in a large pot. Bring to a bare simmer over medium-low heat; cook gently for 15-20 minutes.
Add Grand Marnier. Divide among glasses; garnish each with a cinnamon stick & orange slices.
Mulled wine keeps for about 3-4 days in the fridge.
For a mocktail, switch out the red wine and use a gallon of apple cider.
